Parent Welcome Letter

Hudson HS Tennis – Meet the Parents

Coach Carla Ladner

Welcome parents!

It is a new year at Hudson High School and the start of a new tennis season.  I am excited to get to work on building a strong tennis team.  I have big goals this year for our players and I am pleased that your student has joined our class and ultimately our team. Please thoroughly read the Tennis Handbook, the link can be found in the left coloumn of the HISD Tennis Page.

We have two tennis seasons(Fall & Spring) during our school year, packed with tournaments against schools within our district and neighboring school districts.  Fall season begins the first day of school for returning players and after tryouts for the new players. Any dual matches played in the fall will begin at 4:00 p.m. or as quickly as the opposing team can arrive or the match will be played on a Saturday.  Each time we play another school, we will play a total of:

  • 6 matches in singles play for boys

  • 6 matches in singles play for girls

  • 2 matches in doubles play for boys

  • 2 matches in doubles play for girls

  • a single match of doubles play for mixed doubles (1 boy, 1 girl on each team together)

The Spring Season will begin on January 1, 2019 and will continue until the end of advancement in the final tournament(s).

Each time we play in a scheduled spring tournament, only the selected tournament team will be excused from school to travel.  An example of a tournament entries is as follows:

  • 2 Boys Singles

  • 2 Girls Singles

  • 2 Boys Doubles

  • 2 Girls Doubles

  • 2 Mixed Doubles

During the Fall Semester, my main goal is to build momentum through practice; improvement of basic skills, form and understanding; physical conditioning and the formation of a true TEAM ATTITUDE.  Your student will have an opportunity to gain match –playing experience against other schools during the Fall Semester & Spring Season - if they show a strong commitment to practice, our team goals, and hard work on their game, all students have the ability to earn their way onto the tournament team.

My plan for the start of the Fall Semester is to continue with our winning history and level of excellence at HHS.  To do this, I plan to do the following:

  • Recruit/Tryouts – look for talented and motivated individuals (Try-outs are the first week of school)

  • Assess

    • Conditioning

    • Athletic background and experience

    • Tennis knowledge

  • Train

    • Conditioning

    • Motor Skills – work on balance, form when exercising, and co-ordination

  • Teach

    • Game Rules + Strategy

    • Scoring

    • How to properly hit shots: Serve, Forehand, Backhand, Volley

  • Build

    • Character

    • Integrity

    • Confidence

    • Teamwork

My requirements for success are simple – parent/s show up to support our athletes, help your athlete attend all practices with the proper equipment, make sure your athlete gets proper nutrition, hydration and sleep.  I will take care of the rest.

Our practices for the tournament team (not the tennis class, which is during school hours) will be after school hours.  These after school practice schedules will be posted on my HHS Tennis Webpage Please make proper arrangements for transportation for your student athlete to be picked up at the end of practice.

I have over 30 years of experience of coaching and playing tennis competitively.  I look forward to working with your student to help them become a strong tennis player.

Go Hudson Tennis!!!
