College Applications Driving You Crazy?

Tarek Zaher

With keeping up with due dates, studying for tests, and completing inhumane amounts of homework assignments, high school is stressful enough. Unfortunately, during senior year students have to add another reason for the consideration of dropping out entirely and becoming beach bums: Deciding which colleges to apply to. In order to make this task a bit easier, The Hornet Herald has analyzed the characteristics of three popular Texas universities. Of course, there are thousands of options when it comes to education after high school, but choices within your own state are always a good starting point in the vital process of deciding how you will follow your dreams.

Texas A&M University

Ranked by the Wall Street Journal as “2nd among all universities in the nation in a survey of top U.S. corporations, non-profits and government agencies, based on graduate recruiters preference to hire”, Texas A&M possesses a vast chain of alumni (over 436,000) ready and proud to hire graduates of the college. With 191 undergraduate majors available and more officers than any institution other than the nation’s service academies, A&M is well-equipped to provide almost any education you desire. The main campus is located in College Station, enrolling 55,809 out of the total 62, 185 students, however branch campuses also exist in Galveston and even the Middle Eastern country of Qatar! My personal favorite part of this college is the annual physics festival featuring hundreds of amazing demonstrations and talks from famous physicists, bubble experts, and even astronauts! Overall, this college is a great choice due to its endless opportunities of education, fun, and, once graduated, jobs!

University of Texas at Austin

Whether you plan to study science, humanities, or even arts The University of Texas at Austin offers state-of-the-art programs which are all critically acclaimed. According to U.S. News & World Report, the university is one of the top 20 public Universities in the nation. With 119 undergraduate degree programs, over 12,400 available courses, 450 study abroad programs in 78 countries, and 3,000 staff on campus, all placed in a city recognized for its creative and entrepreneurial spirit, UT Austin provides a place for students to explore countless opportunities.

Stephen F. Austin State University

Known as one of the most beautiful university campuses in Texas, Stephen F. Austin sits in the conveniently nearby East Texas town of Nacogdoches. For students looking to stay close to home, Stephen F. Austin is a perfect choice. The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks are highly competitive in sports; especially in basketball making three appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Stephen F. Austin is known as being one of the best forestry colleges in the state of Texas, and perhaps the world. This college is sure to produce amazing experiences for all students.
