Cross country teams qualify for state meet

Holly Ratcliff

The boys and girls varsity cross country teams advanced to the state meet which will be held November 7, 2015 in Round Rock, Texas.

An astounding showing at regionals awarded both teams second place, despite the harsh circumstances. The course was a mud-pit due to the rain, and nearly every runner crossed the finish line carrying one shoe with the other one lost forever in the abyss of wet dirt.

While some people purposefully sign up for mud-runs, the consensus of Hudson runners is that courses should be dry so shoes can stay on.

"The mud was very challenging, very different than what we're used to," said varsity runner Emma Godfrey. "I can't say I would ever want to do that again, but it was a good experience for what cross country courses can be like. I think it prepared us for state, because we know that the state course can never be that bad!"

The runners are carrying the confidence from all the races and practices of this season into the coming week where perseverance, determination, and strength will be put to the test.

"We have been waiting all season for these last meets and it’s all or nothing," varsity runner Jesús Ramos said.
