Hudson Basketball jumps into 2015-16 Season

By: Mary Beth Ratcliff

This year's basketball season is quickly approaching, and our Hornets are ecstatic to see what this season holds. With the team's games and scrimmages getting started the players are feeling their “game day jitters”  more often. These teams will be playing teams from all over East Texas in pre-season. Interviews from players have expressed their goals for the season, what is being worked on in practice, and how the teams will grow throughout this year.

Players are anxiously awaiting to see what this season holds for their team and themselves. When interviewing Briana Dillard, senior varsity basketball player, she was asked what her goals for this season were. Dillard was quick on her feet and gave the response of, “I would like to see my team and I go undefeated at home this season and make it further into playoffs then we did last year.” With this positive attitude the Hornets are going into the season right with a great goal.

The teams after school practices have just gotten underway and have gotten a quick start into this preseason. Both Dillard and Jacob Huffstetler, a junior on varsity basketball team, were asked what was being worked on in these longer practices. Huffstutler’s answer was on point when he said, “To get in shape, work hard, and teammate chemistry.” When asked the same question Dillard was just as sharp in saying, “Communtiy with each other, working the ball around, and playing as a team instead of just one person.” This focus on the practices is great in helping the team work together and build trust on and off the court.

The Hornets are a team on and off the court, helping each player to grow in every aspect of life and basketball. When asked how the team will grow this season and how each player impacts the other, Huffstetler and Dillard were quick to answer. Dillard started out by saying, “We usually have team bonding before games which helps us get ready for the game and have a little fun. My teammates also always encourage me, push me to do better, and influence my life in a positive way.” Huffstetler then added in by saying, “Spending time with our team during tournaments really helps our team in and off the court. My teammates always want the best from me and push me to do what they know I can.”

The overflowing positive attitude from both the Lady Hornets’ and Hornets’ basketball team really gets everyone pumped for the upcoming season. With the dedication and perseverance we are seeing in preseason, district should have a positive outcome for both teams. As Dillard said, “It's game time.”
