Hoodies for Hornets

The chill of winter is in the air encouraging people to huddle around crackling fires while sipping hot chocolate. Others are digging in their closet to pull out boots, sweaters, and thick jackets to ward off the cold. Last years fashion and outgrown jackets lay forgotten in the back of closets serving no purpose other than to take up space and hangers. Hudson is giving students an opportunity to give back to others by donating their hoodies to other students who don’t have jackets to ward off the cold this winter.

This year a new program founded by Grace Elliott is pioneering on campus to benefit less fortunate students in the Hudson school district. It began the Monday following Thanksgiving (November 30th) and will end the Wednesday before students are released for Christmas Break (December 16th). Students can bring new or slightly used hoodies sizes 4T - Adult XL to their class sponsors to gain class points. Freshmen bring hoodies to Mrs. Rich, Sophomores to Mrs. Gowin, Juniors to Mrs. McWilliams, and Seniors to Mrs. Godfrey. The hoodies will be helping Peavy, Bonner, and Middle School students.

Elliott was inspired by her youth group to start Hoodies for Hornets. Elliott also is a member of Hudson NHS, who encourages members to give back to their community.

“We were talking about service and giving back and I do also with a friend from my church, Caroline Chance, Books for Buckner,” Elliott said, “Buckner is a housing facility for moms and their kids and we go every Thursday and we read. That inspired me to do something here at the school. We usually do things here at the high school or for the community and I just thought something would be nice for the younger kids who their parents can’t buy anything for them.”
