Red Ribbon Week 2018

Lauren Thornton

On October 22-26, also known as Red Ribbon Week, millions of schools across the country will be raising awareness of the harmful effects of drugs. Hudson’s Drug-Free All-Stars, along with the help of Mrs. Ratcliff, Mr. Olszewski, and Mr. Harris, have organized dress-up themes that everyone can participate in.

Monday, students are asked to wear red in collaboration of Red Ribbon week.

Tuesday club picture day. Wear a club shirt from the current or previous years.

Wednesday is twin day. Students are encouraged to dress like their best friend. Thursday is the day to dress in your favorite sports team attire.

Friday is superhero day. Wear a superhero t-shirt or hero costume.

These themes help students stand united in the fight against drugs. During the Drug-Free All-Star meeting, Mrs. Ratcliff said, “People who have a club or sports team or a good group of friends to be a part of are less likely to do drugs.”

Red Ribbon week began in response to DEA Agent Enrique Camarena being tortured and murdered by drug cartels. “Red Ribbon week is a good time to reflect on the many individuals who have sacrificed time and security in their efforts to stop drugs,” said one of Hudson’s Students, Jacob Thornton.

Red Ribbon week helps remind students that drugs are dangerous and it is OK to say no to drugs. Mr.Olszewski says, “Red Ribbon Week raises awareness of drugs and alcohol and their dangerous effects. It reminds students that many people remain drug/ alcohol-free.”

Students will receive class points for participation in the week’s events. So Hudson students, on October 22-26, do not forget to come to school dressed in support of being drug-free.
