CollegeCollege Decisions

Ethan McRoberts

Hey Highschoolers! It’s mid-year, which means that now is the time for seniors to be making final decisions about their post-secondary plans. Therefore, it is also a great time to discuss college visits. Visiting colleges and universities is an important step in your decision-making process!

Just think about it: you put all the time and effort it takes to be accepted to your target school, and when you go to move in you realize that the vibe just does not sit well with you. Such an unhappy surprise can easily be avoided by checking the campus out before you make your decision!

Here are Hudson, Junior and Senior students are allowed two days per year to visit post-secondary schools. These must be approved by a principal, the schools must be outside of Angelina County, and students must acquire documentation on university letterhead of their visit. Here is the procedure for securing permission:

  1. Pick up a permission form from either the GO Center or the Front Office.

  2. Fill out and return the form at least three days prior to your visit.

  3. Find out if you secured permission before you leave.

  4. Have a great visit and ask plenty of relevant questions!

  5. Bring the required documentation back to the Front Office.

College visits are a great way to look in-depth at which post-secondary school is the right choice for your specific situation. Always remember to dress appropriately and use your best soft-skills when visiting a campus. After all, a good first impression is a great foot in the door!
