Good Year, Great School, Better Teachers

By: Sophia Stephenson

Hudson High School will welcome ten new staff members this year. I had the privilege of interviewing these teachers to discover their reasons for choosing to instruct at HHS and the college they attended to receive the education qualifying them for their current positions.

Mr. Phillips is our new social studies teacher and assistant soccer coach. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University. Phillips claims, “I want to teach at Hudson, number one it’s a good school district, two I have family that lives here, three I eventually want to have kids, and I want them to go into this school. It’s a great working environment and stuff gets done really well.”

Mr. Krupski is the new director for the Hudson band and a graduate of the University of South Florida. He said, “I wanted to teach at Hudson because I think it's a great school, and I think it's a great band program.”

Mrs. Jones is our new BIM, technology and robotics teacher. She is one of many who graduated right around the corner at Stephen F. Austin State University. Jones states, “My husband used to be on the school board here, so I know it's a good school. My mother-in-law worked here for thirty years, my daughter had her twelve years here, my husband went his twelve years here, my sister-in-law works here, and my brother-in-law used to work here. It [the job] was a chance for me to get involved in the robotics. I used to work at another school; the children and their families all wanted them to come to Hudson, so when this job opening came up I was like, ‘I want to be a part of that team’.”

Mrs. Early teaches HST and clinicals in Hudson’s nursing program. She is a graduate of Texarkana College, and she said “I was just looking for something different and to be able to teach students about health care.”

Mr. Wallace is our new science teacher and is also the girls golf coach. The graduate of Texas A&M University claims he “heard a lot of good things about students and staff.”

Mrs. Oliver is our new biology teacher and a graduate of the College of Charleston. Oliver said, “I wanted to teach at Hudson because this is where I wanted my son to go. It's a great district with so many opportunities for the kids, and I really believe they're doing wonderful things here.”

Mrs. Jaramillo is the new online learning teacher who graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University. She came here “because my kids go here, and I think it's a good school.”

Mrs. Turner is our new choir director. She has an undergraduate degree from Mississippi College and a Master’s degree was from Colorado State University. Turner “heard that Hudson was a fabulous place to be.”

Mr. R. Allen is the new English teacher and is a graduate of  Stephen F. Austin State University. Allen said, “I wanted to teach at Hudson because I have a lot of family history at the school, and I heard a lot of great things about it. It's also close to my house.”

Ms. Roberts is the new English teacher and is a graduate from Stephen F. Austin State University. Roberts states, “I wanted to work at Hudson High School because they hold very high expectations for their students.”

Now you know a little more about the new staff at Hudson High School. If you see them be sure to give a big, warm welcome to our school!
