Meet the HighLights: Hudson's New Officers

Murphy McDermott

As school kicks back into gear, the Hudson HighLights are doing just the same...literally. With more big performances and dazzling routines just around the corner, the new officers will be there to lead the team through it all! Here are your 2016-2017 officer line members:

Jenna Russell is a 4 year member of the drill team and is the newly chosen captain for the 2016-2017 season. She is a senior with about 15 years of dance experience and is associated with societies such as the Spanish Club. “I am excited to see [the team] grow as dancers and see the team’s progression throughout the year!”, said Russell. With the team adding an additional two lieutenants this year, Russell said, “It is helpful, and it's nice to have some backup!   “After high school I am planning to go to college, and travel the world.” she said.

Lauren Glass is a 2 year member and is a senior lieutenant. She is involved in many clubs/societies including National Honor Society, Leadership Tomorrow and Student Council. The cheerleader turned dancer has been dancing her heart out since the age of three and has never looked back. “You can be expecting a lot of great performances from [the HighLights]”, said the 18 year old. She is hoping to attend Baylor University after graduating and pursuing a career in business and communications.

The younger sister to Lauren Glass is Miss Julia Glass. Julia is a 16 year old Junior lieutenant and is a 3rd year member on the team. She is involved in Student Council, Leadership Tomorrow and Key Club along with many other extracurricular activities. She has been dancing since the age of three and is an elite competitive dancer at Susan's Studio of Dance. When asked about her goals for this years team Glass said, “I hope that we bond more as a team and become closer as a dance family!” She is en route to pursue a career in the medical field and hopes to also attend Baylor University. “Sic’ Em Bears!”

Kendall Palmore is a 3yrd year member on the team and is a newly announced lieutenant. She is, with Ms. J. Glass, an elite competitive dancer at Susan's Studio of Dance. Palmore has pursued a life surrounding dance since a very young age and is an active member in Key Club, Student Council and Photography Club. When asked about the “Hat Ceremony”, the 16 year old said, “the Hat Ceremony is kind of like an initiation ceremony where all of [the HighLights] receive their new hats and find out what it really means to be a HighLight.” This year the hat ceremony will be held on the soccer field on September 16th (depending on inclimate weather.).

Last but not least is 16 year old Junior, Lt. Mackenzie Lillard. She has also trained at Susan’s Studio of Dance and has been dancing since early childhood. She is a member of Key Club and Student Council and is the daughter of our very own Hudson Lady Hornet Soccer Coach, Derick Lillard. “This year is definitely going to be very exciting!”, said Lillard. “We have a lot coming up and you can be expecting some fantastic hip hop, jazz, and pom routines!” You can catch the HighLights later this month at the Annual Pom-Pom/Dance competition on September 21st at 6PM. See you there!
