Apple Springs and Hudson Join Forces Once Again
Holly Ratcliff and Murphy McDermott

The Hudson Highlights and Hudson marching band revel under the Friday night lights at the Apple Springs football games, where they readily support the Apple Springs team.
"What happens is, since they don't have a band, we are more than happy to go [and be their band]," senior drum major Trevor Curtis said.
Likewise, as Apple Springs does not have a dance team, the Hudson Highlights drill team performs at every game.
"Yes, it's a little weird that they're not our school, but I still like to support. I'm looking forward to supporting other schools and people." Senior drill team captain Lindsey Burcham said.
Both the band and the Highlights have an attitude of support towards the team and display genuine excitement about cheering on Apple Springs.
"It's really fun going out to Apple Springs and meeting all the new people and playing for them," junior drummer Lincoln Miller said.
Curtis concurs, calling it a "community thing" and declaring that it is "awesome" to be allowed the opportunity to support the Apple Springs team.
Just as much as the Hudson teams love to support, they also enjoy the chance to practice and perform.
"I do enjoy [performing], because it's the feeling of dancing on the field and being under those lights," senior drill team Lieutenant Rachel Hill said. "It's the feeling of it. It's a different vibe than basketball season: being by the band and performing field routines and being outside."
While the Highlights relish the opportunity to perform, the band appreciates the opportunity to practice.
"Our marching show is ET this year, you know like "Extra-Terrestrial"," Curtis said. "We love going to Apple Springs, because it provides practice for us. I'm looking forward to showing all of our community our marching show before contest."
The band will participate in many marching competitions throughout the year, and the Highlights will participate in dance competitions as well.
"My favorite part is the UIL competitions we go to and the uil solo and ensemble Regions." Miller said.
While the Highlights also enjoy competitions, they have a slightly different favorite part of their season.
"My favorite part about Highlights is the relationships you make with your team and the girls," Burcham said.
Hill echoes excitement about the team atmosphere, particularly "the relationships and friendships we'll have."
Both the Hudson band and Highlights are looking forward to a good year, and a fantastic football season.
"I am most excited about having fun and doing what we do best." Curtis said. "Go hornets!"
