At 12:00 P.M. on Friday, November 18, Hudson High School juniors submitted their applications for the Pine Tree Chapter National Honor Society. 62 juniors received invitations to apply the week of November 7th. The Chapter has already reviewed senior applications and accepted 5 new senior members.

National Honor Society is a nation-wide organization that encourages scholarship, leadership, community service, and character. Hudson’s National Honor Society (formally known as the Pine Tree Chapter) has volunteered at 8 community events this semester alone, including the Pregnancy Help Center Banquet, Junior Achievement Race for Success, and the Annual Pineywoods Purgatory. Upon admission to NHS, juniors are required to perform 15 hours of community service each, and 20 hours for each senior.

The application process for National Honor Society begins with an invitation sent to every junior or senior with a GPA over 4.25. The applicants then fill out a form outlining their extracurricular activities, leadership positions, awards, service, and work experience. In addition, they must have 5 teacher recommendations, a letter of recommendation from an employer or supervisor, and an essay discussing what constitutes “a person of character.” Next, the applications are evaluated by a faculty committee; this year’s committee is Mrs. Rosario, Mrs. Robbins, Mr. Largent, Mrs. Meisel, and Mrs. Adams. The committee examines the applications for accuracy and completion, then describes their personal experiences with the individual applicants.

New junior members should be announced after Thanksgiving break. Official induction into the Pine Tree Chapter NHS will be held January 9th in the Hudson Auditorium. Good luck to all of the applicants and congratulations to the new senior members!
