Homecoming

The Hudson Hornets will face the Huntington Devils at the annual Homecoming game on Friday January 20th at the Hudson gym. The week prior to the game will consist of spirit-filled activity and friendly competition between the classes.

Lauren Slusher, Student Council President, said, “Homecoming is representative of the student body, and student council is a student led organization therefore the club is in charge of planning and orchestrating the event.”

Every year classes decorate their hallways according to the theme assigned to them in order to gain class points. This year all classes received board games which they will use as inspiration for their decorative endeavors. The freshman received Scrabble, the sophomores Cranium, the juniors Life, and the seniors Candy Land.

Ms. Stanford, sponsor of Student Council, said, “Since the theme is Hudson’s got game, we decided to go along with the whole game and basketball game idea. So board games just made sense as class assignments.”

Students can also acquire class points by dressing up according to the theme of the day, which also corresponds with hallway assignments. On Tuesday, students can attach the same letters as their first names to the fronts of their shirts to make words (Scrabble) with their friends. On Wednesday, pupils can wear pajamas and have “sweet dreams” (hence the Candy Land reference). On Thursday, students can dress as their future careers, or what they intend to be for the rest of their Lives. Friday is battle of the classes (Battleship) and also gameday so freshmen will wear white, sophomores black, juniors maroon, and seniors gray.

Colton Castilaw, sophomore and homecoming court nominee, said, “I’m excited because we get to wear pajamas. I think it’ll be fun.”

Despite the fun and games, Homecoming would not be Homecoming without the presence of the court. The freshmen duke and duchess are Caleb Newsome and Crosby Cullen; sophomores are Colton Castilaw and Taylor Brazil; and juniors are Duke Jordan and Casady Fuller. The senior nominees for king are Sutton Lowe, Justin Forrest, Payton Davis, and Guyler Sims while the nominees for queen are Christina Hernandez, CK Wright, Kacy Capps, and Haley Brazil.

Haley Brazil said, “I’m really excited about being nominated for homecoming court. I think having the opportunity to experience this with my sister is really special. I feel like there aren’t a lot of people who get to do that; we’ll remember it for the rest of our lives I’m sure.”

The presentation of the court will begin following the end of the last game (around 9:00). The junior king and queen will be Annie and Miler Stewart, and Mary Beth Ratcliff and Garrett Croley will MC. Hudsonites must prepare themselves for a week of fierce competition and loads of fun
