Mrs. Whiteker Retires

Kristina Johnson

After 23 years as the superintendent of Hudson ISD and 44 years in education, Mrs. Mary Ann Whiteker will retire effective June 30.

Mrs. Whiteker announced her retirement with a letter to Hudson ISD staff on Friday, March 24, which read, “Upon completing my 23rd year as Hudson ISD superintendent, I have decided it is time for me to retire. I am so honored to have had the opportunity to serve this district and thankful to be able to end my professional career in Hudson.”

Throughout her work at Hudson ISD, Mrs. Whiteker implemented “21st century learning” on each campus, which will be one of her many legacies to remain after her retirement. During her time as superintendent, Mrs. Whiteker was also named 2015 Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards.

The Hudson ISD school board plans to find a new superintendent similar to Mrs. Whiteker, with board president Kent Walker saying, “There may not be another prospective leader with the caliber of passion and visionary qualities of Whiteker. She has a true passion for education and works tirelessly.”

As the longest serving superintendent of Hudson ISD, Mrs. Whiteker has most certainly left her mark. She wrote, “I have had the privilege of working with tremendous board members, talented and dedicated staff, and a community that supports their students and their school. Thank you for your loyalty, your support, and your friendship.”

Thank you, Mrs. Whiteker, for your service to Hudson ISD.
