The upcoming Hudson basketball season will be one for the books. With Diboll and Shepherd no longer in the same district as Hudson, there is new competition on the horizon. Hudson’s two new opponents are Center and Carthage.

Along with a change in district opponents, there has also been a change in the coaching staff. The boys’ varsity head coach is Zach Allison, the junior varsity coach is Jeff Brantner, and the sophomore team coach is Tanner Hines. Bigger and better things are expected from the guys’ basketball program with the new coaching staff.

Coach Allison has made many reforms to the guys’ basketball program. He has raised the standards of what it takes to play basketball in Hudson.

Hudson basketball has developed new techniques for a better season. The coaches are working for a faster pace game. The coaches have started used a new program called Hudl to help keep track of statistics and to watch film of previous games.

Coach Hines said, “The coaches have also locked down on the player’s grades and raised the academic expectations of the basketball teams.”

Finally, the coaches have higher expectations of the character of their players in school and in the community. The coaches are making better basketball players and better people out of their athletes.

The guys and girls basketball schedule can be found under Hudson High School’s athletics tab. The varsity girls basketball coach said, “We are expecting bigger and better things this year. We are going to give this season everything we have and try to be district champions.”

The Hudson Hornets have a fire and the organization is helping feed the fire but bringing more and more fans in. This year there are themes for all the home games such as red, white and blue around the time of Veterans Day. The first home game, fans were encouraged to “maroon out” and there are more themes to come.

This year there are many changed made across the program that is affecting not only basketball players, but also the teachers of the players, fans, and people of the community.

Hudson basketball has a fire and they are hungry for a strong season. This is the time for new beginnings. Good luck to the Hudson Hornets.
