The Hudson Boy’s Soccer Team defeated China Springs on March 25, 2016 to be the first soccer team in school history to advance to the second round of playoffs!

“When it came to game day, everyone's attitude was positive,” senior Tito Zamarron said. “Everyone was excited for the game instead of nervous; that's when I knew that we were going to win that game.”

It’s not just a positive attitude that has made this team great though.

“Constant hours of practice has led the team to the second round of playoffs,” junior Charlie Calamaco said. “Blood, sweat, and tears have driven us to extraordinary lengths.”

Throughout harsh weather conditions, difficult schedules, tournaments, and games, this team has stuck it out.

“All the hard work in practice has taught us how to work more as a team, and how to give all that we have,” Zamarron said. “Also, the extra practice each player did outside of school has strengthen our skills individually.”

Sophomore Trever Beaty echoed this by saying that “Everyone has put in their fair share of effort and hard work to have us end up where we are now.”

But no team can be great without an incredible leader, without an incredible coach.

“On behalf of the team and I, I would like to thank our coach, Richard Meisel,” Zamarron said. “Honestly, without Coach Meisel, we would have never been able to make it this far. Richard Meisel is the best soccer coach that has coached at Hudson.”

Coach Meisel has developed an exceptional program and created leaders out of his team members, leaders who have then gone and encouraged the rest of the team.

“I’d like to thank Coach Meisel and Tito Zamarron for pushing me to become a better player each day,” Calamaco said. “I’d like to thank the whole soccer program for always being there for me.”

Next Saturday, the soccer team will face off against Splendora at Sam Houston.

“We've played them in the [Lufkin Panther] showcase this season,” Zamarron said. “We lost that game 4-2. However, Splendora didn't witness what we're capable of.”

According to Beaty, there were harsh weather conditions that “played against us the whole match.”

“During that game, more than half the Hudson team gave up, including myself,” Zamarron said. “Nothing was going our way that game. We are going into the next game knowing what we're really capable of. We are going in there knowing that Splendora does not know what's coming. We're going in confident, but not overconfident.”

This team is ready and waiting to prove their hard work and continue making history for the Hudson High School soccer program.

“All of the team dedicated themselves to this,” Calamaco said. “We always push each other and act like a family on and off the field. Believing is our team’s mindset for next week. We have the heart, and we truly believe we can win.”
