State Track Meet

Run of Champions!

Amy Stewart- Head Track Coach

We returned from Austin with 2 State Champs! It was an exciting weekend and complete results are listed below.

We were on a 6 hour rain/lightning delay, so the circumstances weren't ideal. However, the kids represented Hudson very well and we are so proud of the year we had! It will be hard to match this success again... But we will try!!!! ☺

On Friday, Hudson junior Christina Hernandez brought home the gold in Class 4A in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:10.16 to edge defending state champion Morgan McCutchen of Levelland (11:10.73).

“Today’s race was definitely the toughest race I’ve experienced,” Hernandez said. “I was not only racing the 2015 state champion, but also myself. It was such a great feeling to accomplish one of my personal goals that I’ve dreamed of since middle school. Hopefully I can return next year to represent Hudson High School once again.”

Payton Davis won the 400-meter dash in Class 4A for the second consecutive year on Saturday night at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Davis posted a personal-record time of 48.11 to win his second gold medal in the event.

“It was amazing,” Davis said. “It was a completely different feeling. I wanted to go out and do my best and see through what I started this year, and I did that.”

Davis said Ave’on Gilbert of Coldspring-Oakhurst was ahead of him until Davis passed him with about 80 meters remaining.

“Once I passed him, I felt people trying to catch me, but I was just trying to hold it off as much as I could,” Davis said. “As soon as I crossed the finish line, I was just thanking God for the opportunity.”

Hudson’s Christina Hernandez placed third in the 1,600-meter run in Class 4A with a time of 5:10.94. The junior earned the bronze medal a day after taking the gold medal in the 3,200-meter run.

Hudson’s 4x400-meter relay team of La’Javion Randle, Roma Fenley, Jeffery Stotts and Davis placed fifth in Class 4A with a time of 3:24.81.

Hudson’s Emma Godfrey placed seventh in the 800-meter run in Class 4A with a time of 2:21.86.

Hudson’s Ja’Deja Deason placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in Class 4A with a time of 15.17.

Hudson’s Tedron Roberts placed eighth in the 1,600-meter run in Class 4A with a time of 4:42.57.
