Kicking Off A Great Semester With Powder Puff

With the fall semester in full swing, many activities are starting to pop up every single week. This weeks fun and exciting program is Powder Puff Football. As described by student council officer Kristen Ferrara, Powder Puff is “A football game in which girls are the players and boys are the cheerleaders, [and] is an event hosted annually by Student Council to raise money for the Veteran's Day Program. The event provides an opportunity for students of various classes to come together for friendly competition and the expression of school pride.”

This night of fun is put on my our school's Student Council and has been a campus wide hit for many years. Not only does this event benefit our student body, but it plays a key role in providing the necessary amenities for the Veterans Day Program, one of Hudson's most distinguished events. “The money raised by Powderpuff directly funds the Veteran's Day Program, specifically paying for outreach efforts, delicious breakfasts, and aesthetic items which heighten the class of the event ” said Ferrara.

Many new students and parents raise the question of the purpose of Powder Puff. This event not only raises money for our Veterans Day event, but it helps each class earn “points” for their respective grade. As described by Ferrara,“The winning powderpuff team gets 100 class points, and the winning cheerleading team gets 100 class points. These points count toward the total tallied at the end of the year which determines the winner of the class competition. The champion class is treated to a day off of school where students usually see a movie and eat a nice lunch.”(results below) What a treat!

Although this year's Powder Puff event has already passed, it's never too late to get involved next year! Class points are always up for grabs. Weather it be red ribbon week, homecoming or even the spirit stick you can always show your class pride!
