Eye of the Hornets

The Eye of The Hornets

By: Savannah Lipscomb

With homecoming coming around the bend, the Lady Hornets take the court as they prepare to go face to face with the Huntington Lady Devils. Mrs. Coach Hines said, “We’re looking to have a really big crowd, lots of activity in the student section, and hopefully a really good turnout from our kids,” so with that in mind you should look forward to having a great night at the homecoming game.

Although the Lady Hornets are 1-1 in district so far, with a loss to the Diboll Ladyjacks, Baleigh Hudman said, “We are planning to come out on top as district champions.” When asked what her feelings about Varsity’s record this season Cassidy Wilmon said, “I know that we could do better, but I'm proud of how far we've come.” Even Senior Manager, Abi Balderas said, “If they play their hearts out and really want to win the game, we will crush them!”

With just a little more than a week to prepare for the big game, Baleigh was asked if Coach Hines was pushing the team any farther in practice now that they are rounding the bend and she said, “Yes. She works us to the best of our ability, and she makes sure we are prepared.” And, as the practices get harder the pressure builds, but Cassidy Wilmon said there’s, “A little pressure. You have to go big or go home, and leave it all on the court.” When Senior Captain Baleigh Hudman was asked how it feels being out on the court, and she said, “It feels great. I love the pressure whether it is an easy or hard team,” and the pressure must be high since the Lady Devils are what Coach Hines described as a “big rival.”

Abi Balderas was asked what she thinks are Varsity’s strengths on the court, and she said, “They’re really good at blocking out and having good communication.” Coach Hines said, “The girls come out on the court every day, and give it their all in practice.” If they Lady Hornets continue like their coach and manager say they're doing, the Hudson Lady Hornets could bring home a win on homecoming night.  Cassidy Wilmon said, “We expect to play with heart to get the W.”
