About Hudson Middle School choir

At Hudson Middle School, you have the option of participating in choir in 6th, 7th, and/or 8th grade.  Some things to know about choir:

- You do NOT have to try out! You do NOT have to have any previous music experience! You will NEVER have to sing by yourself in front of other students (unless you want to)!  If you are interested in singing, just ask for choir as your #1 choice for elective classes.  smiley

- All middle school choir students can expect to have the following opportunities:

    * Get a Hudson choir t-shirt.

    * Singing in the Veteran’s Day Program.

    * Singing in a festive December holiday concert.

    * Participating in a Fall Choir Tour around Lufkin during a school day, including eating lunch together at a restaurant.

    * Participating in a fun Choir Social Night; in the past, we have done activities like going to Hijinx, going to see a musical, etc.

    * Singing in a Pops Show at the end of the school year, featuring popular songs that YOU as a team have selected!

    * Going on a fun, end-of-year road trip.  In the past, we have travelled together to places like Six Flags, Pinstack, and Splash Kingdom!

    * Getting great training and experience as a musician, making you more qualified to audition for Varsity Ensemble, the top vocal group in Hudson ISD, when you are in 9th grade.

- In addition to all of the above opportunities, 7th and 8th graders will also have the following:

    * The chance to try out for All-Region Honor Choir.  Those who are selected for this group go on an all-expenses-paid, overnight field trip (complete with dinner in a nice restaurant) with other All-Region Honor Choir students from Hudson!  You would get to sing with other outstanding middle school musicians from around this area of Texas in rehearsals and in a concert.

    * The chance to participate in Solo & Ensemble Contest.  For this contest, you would prepare a solo and sing it in front of a judge.  You would be given a score and possibly a medal!  In addition, the entire group of Hudson Middle School students participating in the contest will go out to eat together.  (We eat a LOT in choir!)

If you will be a Hudson Middle School student this coming year and have not yet signed up for choir but would like to do so, it’s not too late.  If you would like to take choir but are worried it won’t fit into your schedule, there’s no harm in asking about it.  E-mail Mrs. Turner at maryturner@hudsonisd.org ASAP with any questions you may have!
