Next week, April 11-15, Hudson High School’s golf teams will compete at the UIL Regional Competition.

“We are very optimistic about competing next week,” said Brittany Ferrara, a sophomore. “We have been training very hard and the results from our district competition clearly show that we are qualified to compete.”

The boy’s and girl’s golf teams excelled at their district competitions last week.

“I think the performances of all players were extremely good,” said Mr. Hefner, golf coach. “I’m excited that we won first place in boy's, first place in girl’s, and we are looking forward to playing at regionals next week.”   Sutton Lowe and Lauren Johnson each placed first as individuals at the competition. Lowe has worked very diligently for this achievement.

“I’ve been taking what I was struggling with, particular areas of the game, and refining it,” said Lowe, junior. “I know I can advance to state, it’s just a matter of doing it.”

While Lowe is confident in his abilities, Mr. Hefner does not know what to expect at regionals.

“Since I haven’t seen other teams at regionals, I don’t know what to think,” said Hefner. “I know that if we don’t do our best we won’t move on.”

In other words, if the teams play to the best of their abilities, Mr. Hefner feels they have a chance of advancing, which the girl’s team did last year.

“Lauren Johnson, Rachel Green, and I competed at state in Austin last year. It was a fun experience, and I learned a lot,” Ferrara said.

With this victory at district and optimism for the regional competition next week, it is no wonder Mr. Hefner and Lowe proclaimed, “It’s a great day to be a Hudson Hornet.”
